The Brisbane suburb of Manly is home to the EM Tooth Memorial Residential Aged Care home and a series of modern, bungalow-style independent living units known as Lota Court. The large landscaped grounds also house the heritage listed Georgian-style Lota House. We are currently looking for a volunteer Kitchen Assistant to work with our paid staff, assisting with meal preparation and service.
Working under the guidance of the Chef/Cook, the volunteer will help with getting meals ready, serving morning tea and keeping the kitchen and dining areas clean and sparkling!
To be successful you will need:
- An interest in cooking and food preparation - previous experience in a commercial kitchen or catering facility would be beneficial
- Experience in hospitality service, food handling and ability to make a great cuppa!
- An understanding of Food Safety and Hygiene Guidelines and a commitment to keeping the workplace safe, clean and tidy
- Comfortable standing for long periods and working with minimal supervision
- The motivation to make a difference in other people’s lives
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to relate to different ages and cultures
- A patient, friendly and mature attitude that shows respect, care and courtesy towards
Other requirements include:
- Availability – at least one shift (4 hours) per week between 8.00am and 12.00pm, Monday to Friday
- Consistency and reliability – willing to commit to an ongoing basis for at least 6 months
- Confidentiality – this is critical to us and you will need to sign a Role Description which includes a confidentiality agreement
- Two (2) referees – who are not relatives and can vouch for your character and interaction in the community (ie. Work Colleague, Church Elder, Community Leader , Doctor or other Professional)
- National Police Clearance – we organise and pay for this if you don’t already have one
