Social Support - Kirami Residential Aged Care, Hervey Bay

Job No: V1770
Location: Hervey Bay

At Anglicare Southern Queensland, we respect individuality at all our Residential facilities, and encourage independence in all our residents, while also providing qualified and caring staff to deliver safe and professional support that fosters a loving community.

With a unique bushland setting and views of Fraser Island from the grounds, Kirami is a fully-accredited aged care facility. The Aboriginal word Kirami, meaning ‘home’ or ‘place of care’, represents the commitment of our staff in providing the highest standards of aged care service. We are looking for volunteers to provide companionship and friendship to clients who are in need of social contact - a friendly face and someone to talk to.   As a community visitor you will be matched with someone based on your gender and interests.

During your visits, your support may be having a cup of tea, playing cards or games, listening to music, or just chatting - but all visits brighten someone’s day and make a difference to them.

To join us, you will need:

  • Interests or hobbies that can be shared with an older person
  • Strong social, relationship-building and conversational skills
  • Ability to offer support on outings, activities and general tasks
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport effectively
  • The motivation to make a difference in other people’s lives
  • A patient, friendly and mature attitude that includes respect, care and courtesy towards others
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and maintain professional boundaries

Other requirements include:

  • Availability – at least one shift per fortnight, days and hours negotiable
  • Consistency and reliability – willing to commit to an ongoing basis for at least 6 months
  • Confidentiality – this is critical to us and you will need to sign a Role Description which includes a confidentiality agreement
  • Two (2) referees – who are not relatives and can vouch for your character and interaction in the community (ie. Work Colleague, Church Elder, Community Leader , Doctor or other Professional)
  • National Police Clearance – we organise and pay for this if you don’t already have one
